Happy fall, y'all! I have the perfect project to add a little fun to your handmade fall decor to enjoy all season long- a Tunisian Crochet Pumpkin!
Here's what you'll need to make a pumpkin like mine:
Worsted weight yarn in both a main color and a contrast color (scrap yarn works great!). I used Loops & Threads acrylic yarn in orange and dark green.
Size K 10.5 (6.5 mm) Tunisian Crochet Hook
Traditional size H 8 (5 mm) crochet hook
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Filling (I used poly-fill)
Stitches Used:
Ch - Chain
Tss - Tunisian Simple Stitch
Lts - Last Tunisian Stitch
Sl st -slip stitch
Sc - single crochet
Let's started!
To begin, ch 30, or to about 10 inches
R1: Pull up a loop in the back bump of each ch, return pass
R2-10. TSS into 2nd stitch, and down to the end of the row, lts into the final stitch. (Around 5 in tall. If your stitches are taller or shorter than my gauge, you can adjust the amount of rows you do for your pumpkin.)
Bind off - sl st loosely into each st, cut a long tail for seaming and tie off.
Using your long tail. mattress stitch (or seaming method of your choosing) the short sides together. Then, gather stitch the bottom of the tube to cinch the bottom opening closed. Tie off your seaming yarn, and pull to the inside of your pumpkin.
Fill your pumpkin with stuffing, making sure not to overfill your pumpkin.
Cut another long length of yarn for seaming (I used about a 3 arm lengths amount of yarn) and gather stitch the top of your pumpkin closed. Tie, but do not cut off. Next, you will wrap your yarn around the middle of your pumpkin twice to cinch. Rotate your work a third of the way around, repeat the wraps, rotate it one more third and wrap it again. Then, knot your yarn around the middle where yarn crosses over itself, knot and tie off. Hey, it's starting to look like a pumpkin!
Now for the last little bit which can be a bit fiddly. Using your contrast color yarn, pick up sc stitches in each of the sections of the pumpkin for your first round of the stem. Then, spiral your work with additional rows of sc until your have reached the length of stem you would like, sl st into the top of the stem, cut and tie off. Look, a Tunisian crochet pumpkin!
